Microsoft to open store-within-a-store in 600 Best Buy locations

?

Windows Store to show tablets, Windows Phone, Xbox consoles

Microsoft will be opening up Windows Stores inside electronics retailer Best Buy. The new announcement sees Microsoft placing a store-within-a-store version of its retail chain inside 500 Best Buy locations in the United States and more than 100 Best Buy and Future Shop stores in Canada, with the roll-out set to be finished by September.

The Windows Stores will take up between 1,500 and 2,200 square feet of each Best Buy, which will also see more than 1,200 Best Buy Microsoft-trained staff added to the stores, according to the company blog. The stores will show off a range of Windows-powered devices, including Windows Phones, Microsoft Office, tablets and PCs, the Xbox 360, and the Xbox One when it gets launched.

The move will allow Microsoft to expand its retail presence quickly and relatively cheaply, though it is noted that these store-within-a-stores are branded Windows Store rather than using the existing Microsoft Store name. Microsoft is still working on increasing its store count and customer numbers, though it has had promotional issues in the past.

Microsoft is not the only tech company to open a store-within-a-store in Best Buy. In April, Samsung made its own version official, opening the 'Samsung Experience' stores in 1,400 Best Buy locations to showcase its smartphones, tablets, and notebooks, while Apple has adopted a similar retail presence plan in the past.
