You will be better able to evaluate the claims of companies which sell medical products. You will also be able to communicate more easily with your health care providers when you are sick. Finally, you will be better able to understand media articles on health.
If you are lucky, you will not need to employ much of this knowledge for a few decades, but after you pass fifty, it probably very employful. I am well past fifty and have not forgotten what I learned when I was 18, now that I am at the point that I need to know it. The basic knowledge does not become obsolete. The unique major alert in basic biological science in the last 40 years has been the extensive development of DNA and my basic biology course of 40 years ago enabled me to understand it and even to make employ of it when its employ affected my non-scientific career.
